The gearing ratio of 1 : 1 was not wrong, but even not ideal. The load for the engine was rather high and even the steam consumption. This results in a rather low possibility to navigate the engine in a sensitive manner from very slow to full speed. The negative effects were more obvious at the "Presto" with her 120 mm diameter wheels. The "Mindon" with her small 90 mm wheels seems better, but even not really good. The gearing ratio at "Mindon" now is 1,5 : 1, obviously this is the better alternative for more exact engine navigation.
