Found another photo of my Waverley model in 1973 at the pond in Dunoon.  Anyone able to identify the other paddler and the pier?

Is it either Juno or Jupiter? not sure what the difference is, don't know about the pier either

Yes it is either the Juno or the Jupiter but I think that the photo is too small to tell which one.  I think that the pier may be meant to represent Craigendoran but I am not sure.

Hi,
As far as I know, the external difference between the 1937 Juno & Jupiter was the placement of the destination "fan" boards just aft of the funnels. One of the sisters had hers slightly further aft. Cant make it out in the photo.
The pier is Craigendoran, I have noticed that the Model Steamer Club in Glasgow use a model of this pier in their displays still.

       Thanks for confirming that the pier is Craigendoran.   I have uploaded a new photo of my Caledonia model to the gallery. Have a new camera and I was experimenting with trying to get a realistic deck view with all parts in focus. See what you think of it.

Hi Robert,
Looks great - what wood did you use for the bridge wings & fan boards? I have a few samples of woods for that purpose, but havn't started experiments yet - got a mountain of lime to cut into deck planking first!
Just noticed the loudspeakers on the bridge wings, will have to see if they were there in the mid 50's and add them to my Caledonia, dont think I can get a shopkeeper in without breaking the window though...

Sadly Robert, the pond at Dunoon's West Bay is in a bad state the last time I looked, abandoned is not the right word!
and Clark, have a look at my model of JUPITER in the Castle Gardens Museum and see where the fan board is on it.                Sandy

Yes the pool is half filled in, think Scottish Water are doing something on the site eventually. Its a mess!
Havn't been in the Castle House Museum for years, I will go in the spring when it opens and have a look at your Jupiter. If I remember correctly, there are several paddlers on display, a Talisman in monastral blue & others.

I have JUPITER; TALISMAN; and car ferry JUPITER in there just now and on my last visit they badly need re-rigging.
I don't manage back "home" so often now and when I do Cowal House museum isn't open so I don't get to repair them. I also donate my miniatures of the Clyde fleet.

       The wood which I used for the bridge was a 1/16" thick marine ply. Carefully selected so that all of the wood grain was going in the correct direction. Then it was wood stained to a suitable wood shade.  Fan boards I think were made from mahogany strips.
Sorry to hear that the pond at Dunoon is no longer in use.  We also used to go to the pond at Largs. It is still there?

I will take a walk past the museum and see if there is anyone about, I think the manager goes in during the winter occasionally. I cant remember his name.
If I can get access I will get some photos of your models and post them - failing that, I think it opens to the public around easter time.

I have some thin marine ply, as you say it is just a case of getting the right shade with the stain, definately worth the effort for the finished effect as your photo shows.
I'm not sure about the pool at Largs, although I know there is a model boat club in the town - maybe they use it. I passed through Largs last week - a lot of reconstruction work happening at the pier this winter.

When you were last at the museum, was there a 55" long model of WAVERLEY in the case, as that one is now owned by Walter Snowdon.
I'm coming north to Strone next saturday for a Burns supper at Ardentinny, so I might see if theres anyone at Castle House.

        Nice model of the Maid of Ashton. Wouldnt it have been great if the real Maid has been at Blairmore pier and that you had managed to photograph the two together.

Another from the past,  my collection of Clyde steamer miniatures scale 40' to the inch in balsa.
I have made 160 of them but unfortunately I haven't got the space to display them all at once.
Made them on nightshift before I retired! (so thats why the economy is in a state!)
