 Briquettes would store easily if stacked in a suitable container I hope there is a metal plate or fire bricks under the pot belly to safe guard against ooop's

Hi Damian ,

Where does one go to buy Briquettes in Adelaide ( may seem a totally dumb question . so apologies in advance , but I have never really had the need to even think about such things .Were this a house proper , I would go with Derek`s idea , ( Red river gum ) .The fire would have to be started like that any way , but I was thinking with coal or briquettes I could keep it going slow over night ,as this stove is small ( firebox is at least ).

Under that little  stove I intend to put down some slate , and a metal heat shield around the adjacent walls , air spaced , also behind that flue .

Thanks for the interest , I`ll keep posting as much as i can.
It`s hard to keep enough momentum to get enough work done to show .

Sometimes I think it all gets too boring ......

Thanks mate , I will check those guys out .

I got bored one day , about a decade ago now , and made this somewhat rustic looking side board .
It`s made entirely out of discarded pallets , and the top is salvaged Oregon ( Douglas Fir ).



Today I decided to cut it in half and make two smaller cabinets out of it , to keep my coffee supplies on board the river boat.

I cut out the doors to insert glazing and rebated the back with my router.



Two additional sides are required for the two cabinets , so the back panel was cut up and used.

Four additional legs cut from pine complete the " mods ".

Here is the first one , it still needs to be re - finished with paint and varnish , but this is its intended use .

The glazing is scrap perspex.

I had thought that Victorian brown-coal ones were out production, following a fire in the Morwell plant (Yallourn had been closed and demolished years earlier).
Miniature live-steam operators use industrial char: more compact and less ash.

Since I`m not about to import any coal via alibaba , it looks like I`m back to red gum......any one see the irony of not being able to buy coal for a little stove  in Australia ?

Australia , the world`s largest coal exporter.

Hello everyone .

I have started to fit the pieces together in the rear cabin.

This is the access panel to the plumbing under the bath.




Lower shelf framed and closed in with construction plywood.First coat of paint.





I`m trying hard to make sure there are no small gaps or spaces where the plumbing pierces the walls , to keep out rodents .
Rats have been known to chew up plastic plumbing on boats.





Small cabinet attached to lower shelf with screws. This little cabinet will have to be removed later to lay down the carpet.




Upper shelving for audio / visual equipment will be fixed in place next.

This will be the last of the shelving inside the cabin space.

I was trying to get a look similar to the old train luggage racks .

I could not find cast iron brackets that I liked the look of , so I sketched out my own.




Rough free hand sketch of the intended wall brackets.



I cut out the shapes with the jig saw from 9mm marine plywood.



I cleaned up the first plywood bracket and painted it to use as the pattern for the other three .

The top slats were assembled and the brackets epoxy filleted on.



I then checked for over all scale by propping it on the wall between the port side windows.




It looked ok to me , so I completed the assembly of the " luggage racks " and started painting them.

There will be a light panel set into the shelf bracket , and a place to mount some hooks.

Same story again , there was a rough sketch and the panel is jig - sawed out of 9 mm ply .










A rough idea of panel placement and position of hooks.I intend to use 12 Volt  warm white  flexible Led lighting strip .This will be used as ambient lighting only.

A touch of the art deco style can be seen in the light panel.

Hello everyone ,

I had a two month break ,it`s been too cold down here to get much done ,  frost and ice .......

I have started work on the waste water tanks .

15.2 m of 300 mm Diameter  pipes and end caps make up the tanks .

( 50 ft of 12 inch water pipe )





50 ft of pipe and end caps. Expensive .


Total capacity is 1100 litres , or 290 US Gallons.




End caps are drilled with a 50 mm hole saw ( 2 inch ) , and threaded to receive the threaded DWV fittings








The fittings are supported by generous fillets of 2 pack epoxy Plumber`s putty. Very strong!
