Hello again , to everyone still following.

I have started framing in the  built in beds.

These are pictures of the bed base / mattress support for the forward cabin.

90 x 35 pine studs ripped in half.



It can be seen that these are put together in just about the simplest way possible.



Epoxy glue with one screw to hold the simple joint in place while the epoxy sets up.









Hinging mattress base has been glued and screwed together on left .
Narrow frame is about to be assembled , it will be fixed to the wall .
4 inch ( 100 mm )  butt hinges will be placed between them allowing the mattress and base to be tilted up to gain access to the hatches in the floor.

4 x 4 inch ( 100 mm ) door butt hinges hold the base very rigid.



Bed base folded up.



2 x 2 inch ( 50 x 50 mm )  struts stabilize the frame along the wall.

They can just be seen below the frame.

I stood on the frame along the wall and it all feels very rigid and strong.

Hello again Duckers ,
Work has continued on fitting out the front cabin.


A plywood mattress support has been fitted to the bed base .



These are some pre - painted panels to be fitted to the hanging space in the forward cabin.





I have also made some small canister style drawers to store small items such as keys , USB sticks , batteries , phones ,  and chargers.



Assembling the storage spaces .On the left is a hanging space for clothes , the smaller central locker with the circular vent will house the circuit breakers for the 240 volt mains power supply.On the right another hanging locker for clothes.In the centre are the small canister drawers for all those small items I often " loose "

Things are slowing down a little as the cold weather is starting to make it`s presence felt.

The epoxy glue and paint is taking much longer to set .

Well all be waiting expectantly for any progress Ballarat is already under 15c most days & I haven't been in the shed much.

Too cold for paint , the dark filler that can be seen is still soft after four hours !

Laminated hardwood top for the bedside drawer.


The water based enamel leaches out some of the hardwood tannins on the first coat or two.

Making small items again....

The bedside drawer is completed ready to install.



9mm Meranti marine plywood drawer held together with an epoxy fillet.
Very strong.



Fillet is sanded , then paint , add some roller runners , and we have a drawer.







Some minor touch ups required , then it`s ready to install.

Hello everyone.

Some pictures of  progress made to the rear cabin.

Bed base has been completed , and I have started the framing for the shelving to house some audio - visual equipment

Wall panels have been installed.The small panel at bottom right is removable to gain access to the plumbing " tees " to the bathroom.

Hi Derek ,

Yes , it should be quite  cosy and warm once its fired up ..... some of  that heat would have been nice with today`s cold southerlies blowing straight through that rear deck door way .... .



I was thinking maybe coal ......would be more compact to store .......if I could actually find some ?
