Paddle Steamer Ryde

Some time ago I posted some photographs of a model I had constructed from scratch of the Paddle Steamer Ryde - The original Denny Bros of Dumbarton built, now languishing sadly in Binny Marina on the Isle of Wight.

I've been experimenting with videoing models with a GoPro type camera, mounted on another paddle steamer of mine.  Here is the result - on a nice sunny if slightly windy day in Dundee.  Clink on the link to see the video:

We could clearly see the effects of windage....just after the first minute with the Port paddle box awash, then moments later still water...........

It was quite a gusty day.  I used to use a keel with weight below but now am using internal ballast as there is too much weed in the pond

Did you make your own wheels or use modified Graupners?

Ryde has rather small wheels,12cm diameter with a blade width of 5 cm. I have used a modified set of wheels from Float a Boat in Australia, modified in that I have extended the blades. Still not satisfied with them however and I am in the process of building my own. Speed leaves a little to be desired with such small wheels. I have another similar sized paddle stranger the Cardiff queen which has Graupner wheels and she's quite a goer!
