My mind turned to the paddlesteamer in the 1950s film of
Around the world in 80 days, which starred David Niven.
I knew that it wasn't Hatteras (which was a famous boat of the 1860s USA civil war).
I went to the Paddleducks search function, tried 'Around the world in 80 days', and up came three references.
It was fake paddlesteamer
Henrietta: screw driven with dummy paddles. I don't know if at least it was genuine steam, or that part was fake too. As a film prop, who would care? All credit to the director for achieving the effect. If it were a cruise boat charging passenger fares, I would be concerned.
The best reference was
www.paddleducks.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3081.0, which is in a modelling thread.
A member was making a model, based on stills from a dvd of the movie.
