here is my little steam engine nearly finished except for a few fittings yet to be made.
specs
bore 2.1/2" with a stroke of 2"
double acting slide valve
slip eccentric valve timing with 75% cut off
height 19"
width 6"
weight 20kg
hp 1-1.5 depending on rpm and boiler pressure.
This engine was run on display at the local engineering tafe,it ran very smoothly considering everything is still wearing in.
The engine is yet to run on steam and will run even better due to the expansion property of steam..
so for now it sit's in the corner of the lounge room!
cheers Anthony

That looks brilliant Anth, I wish I could make one (I am not even going to try!!!!)
It is about the size I was looking for, but I think I might need a little bigger now, not sure!?!?!
Good Work

No you wouldn't need any bigger.....!!!
it would suit a hull of around 16ft,a engine a little smaller or reduced boiler pressure would be better.

No bigger then!! How much has that one cost you to make? And how heavy is it with a full boiler?
It still looks awesome

Is that the same engine you've posted before? It looks like you've painted it...have you?
I'll have to come and check it out some time! It will be good to see it under steam...I assume you ran it under an air compressor!

yes the same engine painted and all the brass wear added,it runs on compressed air for the minute,I am in the middle of making another but smaller.......
: can't help my self.
james the cost depends upon materials, and your own time!
I machine these engines from solid cast iron saves money in casting's but you spend more time...it's a trade off one for the other!
Sean your welcome to drop in with your grandfarther during the school holidays in another cpl of weeks
This will allow me to sort a few task's out of the way and tidy the workshop...
and perhaps even make a start on the paddler boiler and engine.

Oh sweet Anthony I will take up that offer...I still have a few weeks of school left and some play rehearsals coming up (about 4 weeks possibly...hope that gives you enough time) then I will talk to my grandpa about coming down!
Hopefully you will be able to talk him out of 'let's just try this' approach...trial and error garbage lol!
Can't wait to come and see your stuff!
Hey do you get your metal from Menzies Scrap metal or where do you get it from?

G'day this little engine was scratch built and designed by myself,it has no plans,it is a large engine not suitable for models, but is up to the task of a serious large size paddler of around 20ft....
hope this help
