My first paddler

Greetings!

Since it survived its maiden voyage, and turned rather better than expected, and since I finally scanned them, some photos from when it was almost finished (it is still only al most finished, but it's getting closer).

Tissue covered balsa and liteply, more or less as simple as possible, improvised around the steam plant.

More details please, steamplant fitted, length/beam of model, is it based on a full sized vessel?

Thanks! Not too bad for a first try (first boat I've built in 25 years)

Antón Quartz Horizontal, Graupner paddle wheels, two stage timing belt gearing, about 7:1; LWL 120cm, LOA 130cm, 15cm beam.

It's not based on any full size vessel, rather a caricature inspired by blockade runners and all sorts of paddlers, with a whiff of steampunk added.

Hi PD's - Torbjörn, she looks great - one very interesting point is your mention of the  ANTON Quartz 2CC horizontal & shaft reduction ratio of 7 :arrow: 1

I understand & have read the ANTON recommendation on line & have copied a similar reduction roller chain drive [3.47mm pitch] of approx 8:1 for my JMC3H - [quite a number of OZ paddlers had exposed roller chain drives]

Thank goodness &    the ANTON  site provided this information as my engine manufacturer did not respond to my e-mailed questions  :rant re this specific question

Again a supurb build & I am sure all PD's will look forward your comments re stability/turning/engine/boiler.......... the list just goes on........regards Derek

The Quartz seems to  work very well indeed, but this being my first steam engine as well, I don't have anything to compare it with. Antón's automagic valves, la vanne coupe gaz automatique autonome, defintely works: I didn't keep track of the time and run out of water in the boiler, so it shut the the burner. One paddler dead in the water in the middle of the pond  

It seems to be reasonably stable, and turns better than I feared it would: 3m (very roughly) turning circle.
