Have any of you guys heard of the Red gauntlet that sank on the south west of arran. I'm trying to find a picture or any info on her.
She didn't sink! she ran onto the rocks, was beached, repaired, moved to the Forth in 1909, went on to become a minesweeper and was broken uo in Algeria sometime around 1934.
There are many pictures of her on the web if you google her as a paddle steamer. As she was built by Barclay Curle the NMM probably hold drawings.
Hope this helps
Stuart
The North British paddler Redgauntlet was beached on the south of Arran after striking rock ledges. She was refloated & returned to service. Will have a look for pictures
Model Shipwright did an article on building a model of her in the 1970s and published a 2 sheet plan at 48th scale. If you look in the photo section of paddleducks there should be a couple of photographs of a very good shipyard half-model held in the hidden collection of Glasgow transport museum. I took them about 4 years ago and I am pretty certain that Eddy posted them. regards, walter.
The images of the Red Gauntlet that Walter mentioned can be found here: http://www.paddleducks.co.uk/mkportal/modules/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=28&page=7
