Paddleducks

Hi  PD's - please excuse me posting outside of our site... bloody new computer &  I am trying to get everything across from the old near dead  unit
 
Yes Eddy - the  minature roller chain is from the Small Parts & Bearings people [in oue WEB  links]  - all the details are  there
 
The smallest chain  pitch [pin to pin] is 3.747 mm or 0.1475" - [same pitch as used on our PS  Reliant model]
 
4" pitch  roller chain was used on some early OZ paddlers so the she scale is pretty  close as at 1:25 to equal 3.7"pitch
 
304 stainless  stainless steel  was available so I chose that  - load  strength is X 40 on the nylon - only down side wil be  noise & the $ cost
 
There are a wide  range of pinion [sprockts] available - I choose a 9 tooth for the engine shaft  & a 48 tootth for the paddle shaft which will provide 5.5:1 reductin  ratio 
 
Standard pinion  bore sizes are listed, so you may need to allow to bore or bore & bush  to suit your requirements - you would need access to a minature die grinder  to grind the riveted chain link pins to break the chain - a  conventional [minature] No 26 connecting links are available - just like  your bicycle chain
 
Only other  suggestion is 5 X drams of Glenfiddi something before you open the $price list  -----

I have an    idea for a project, but because the chain drive would be fully visible, it    needs to look "right".

Hi PD's - Eddy - depending on your actual/estimated chain loading, you could consider the NYLON version of the same pitch roller chain, which is dimensionally identical to the S/S construction

However remember some 3 years in our PD pages with PS Reliant, that the NYLON sproket on the ??? engine/paddle shaft SLIPPED & required pinning?

chain tensioning....OK ...we all know I plan things in advance so  :thinking &  :hehe, but even @ 3.747 mm or 0.1475" pitch, at +/- the same value requires compensation

So Eddy if you go down this chained/sprocket path..... some sort of spring loaded shoe as a tensioning/pressuring device ..... :crash could be OK  :towel
