hello , i am a new member here ,
stumbled across your excellent website by accident , i am mainly interested in marine and stationary steam engines , i love ships too ,but hate the water ::) , also i am interested in all things to do with engineering and the industrial revolution , i have recently become unemployed and luckily have a small workshop at home so i hope to find an interesting and challenging project that doesn't cost too much to build , i'd like something a bit larger than usual to do as my limited machinery is of the full size ex-professional type and i have limited patience with small fiddily things ,
anyway there you are say hello and any suggestions welcome.
Hi Ronan, welcome along to the friendly and helpful site for paddlers, also as the ships we are interested in are associated have a lot to do with steam we get a lot of steam interest here too which is a good thing ;D I was across in Ireland and missed out on seeing the Guinness Steam Museum in a wee village out to the West of Dublin, for the life of me I cannot remember the name, where they hold steaming days once a month in summer. Maybe that would give inspiration if you need it and once you've been here a short time there'll be access to our download sections for your enjoyment and fact finding missions.
cheers
Jim
thank you red_hamish for taking the time to reply , there is a dearth of steam and engineering sites of interest in southern ireland , in the north of course you have the ship yards and associated suppliers sites , but as in the north of england and scotland these are going or are gone sadly , my problem is i live on the wrong side of the irish sea , to be honest i didn't know about the guinness steam museum and its something i have to look into , i won't have much to contribute initially as i have mainly worked with old british motorcycles as a hobby rather than steam, but the allure of steam is strong and i would love to build an engine but want to do a larger than usual one as i have said my machinery is a little large to do smaller work , and to be honest small "table top " engines don't interest me that much.
i have looked in your download page and there is an engine there that might suit ,
anyway thanks again.
