You're welcome Eddy. I was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to find it. While I was looking, I found an article on a Robert E Lee model which is powered by steam.

I was interested in the first article that Eddy posted and ended up sending off to Loyalhanna Dockyard for a set of plans for the Bertrand. They took over Taubman's Plans and have a good set for the Bertrand.

I think she's pencilled in for years 5-6 in my next ten years build schedule! Now that part 2 has appeared I might just bring her forward by a couple of years!

Also picked up a copy of the Western Riverboats Cyclopedium recently - what a goldmine!!!!!

Absolutely right on the cyclopedium and you're welcome. Alan Bates, author of the Cyclopedium and various other books and plans (Bertrand was one), lives in Louisville about a four hour drive from me. Across the river from Louisville is the largest inland river shipyard Jeffboat.

I'm a member of the St. Louis Admirals along with Glenn Hensley who did the Bertrand article. His models are breath taking. He even built a r/c horse powered ferry and the horses legs moved.

moving horses...is there a point to having a water craft with horses...seems a bit silly to me! tsk tsk tsk is someone trying to pull my leg!

For sure, I'm not pulling your leg. Look at the post in Research under Paddle Ferrys There used to be a couple of them near where I live back during the Civil War.

Oh I know paddle ferrys are real but the horse part is the iffy part. unless the horses pull it from a bank then it would kind of make sense. paddlewheels are a much better option though

Haven't you ever heard of a two horse powered hay burner. The horses walk on treadmills that turn the wheels.

Oh well thats traditional horse power I suppose. Doesn't beat steam...and you have to celan up the poo.....yes steam is much nicer!

On one of the paddle motor vessels, ex  steamers, on Lake Garda, there is a picture of an early paddle steamer, powered  by a team of horses operating a circular capstan-like wheel, which appeared to  be geared to the paddles
