Sorry if this is in the wrong place. But just how do you steer a sternwheeler boat?

With rudders just like any other boat.... Sternwheelers can have rudders in front of the sternwheel, behind the sternwheel, or both.

 :) Hello ;
For the side wheels, rudder at the rear and sometimes a front.
For the rear wheels, behind them (one or more) and sometimes also in front of them but also we find under the bow.
On boats feel with a wheel on each side at the back, as they are driven by hydraulic or electric motors no more rudder but for a help there is a bow thruster

This arrangement with small "monkey rudders" from my experience has proved in good manner.
