Building a river boat

The pipes will be strapped below the deck beams , as a pair .

They will be suspended from a pair of 150 mm ( six inch ) C- Channels.

Well and truly over it our coldest night was -6.7c coldest in 20 odd years.

Working out the pipe runs for the flush out.





50 mm ( Two Inch ) DWV  (Drainage , Waste , Vent )  Flush - out pipes.





300 mm DIA ( 12 inches )  x 7.6 m  ( 25 ft ) long x 2 .

Mirror image pairs. 1.1 Metric ton of Waste Water.





Extending the steel channel.

Just found this thread and I find it fascinating to say the least. That houseboat should last a very long time the way you have built it.

Hi Tom.

I`m trying to do the best job I can , given my limited resources and budget.

I intend to put down my tools after this project , apart from any normally  required maintenance , so long lasting would be good.

Bending up the straps for the waste water tanks.







Cold bent over a simple wooden former.

Final shaping done with a ball - pein hammer





Kill Rust primer on straps.





Mounting Bolts 12mm ( 1/2 Inch ) and washer .

Checking straps for fit.







Good tight fit when the bolts are tightened up.







Straps will be spaced at 1200mm ctrs. or 4 ft.

Bridge deck tunnel planking above the tanks is now in place.

Left hand C- channel bolts are not yet tightened , so it looks like there is a gap above the channel.



Bolting up the 150 mm ( 6 inch ) C - Channel.




Tunnel planking plywood edge.

Tunnel planking battens will run along this edge.




Tunnel planking joints are backed with a strip of marine plywood .

I will back out the coach bolts at this beam location , and apply a bead of sealer under the plywood.



C Channel in place.

Definitely a two person job.

I worked alone .It was difficult ,  hard work.




Hardwood tunnel battens fixed in place.







Port side tunnel structure is ready to fit plywood.

Very nice craftsmanship!  It wouldn't be too hard to hang a paddlewheel off that stern.  ;)

Thank you for the kind words herrmill .

As much as I would like to , I do not feel that I have the expertise , ability or resources to successfully  fabricate and fit a paddle wheel to this little boat.

Ideally , I would like to see twin hydraulic motors and a small diesel driving a paddle wheel , but presently ,  it seems beyond my means.

Look honey , there is a hole in the floor!

This opening will give access to the top of the tanks to connect the 50 mm ( two inch ) vent pipes .
One vent to each tank.






Starboard side vent pipe coming up through the rear deck.




50mm hole cut with hole saw and slightly enlarged with pliers.

I am still waiting on the rubber boot / seal , it will be fitted at the base of the vent.





Mandatory bug screen fitted to the vent stack.
Pipe is painted black to aid convection.

Back to work for me.......
