I've gone through my own library to see if I can come up with any
corroboration of Spratt's dimensions. Here's what I've found so far.

I have a 1939 copy of "Rivalry on the Atlantic" by Commander W. Mack
Angus which has a page devoted to "Principal dimensions of Atlantic
steamers famous for their speed." In it "Sirius" is listed as:

LOA 200 ft(Spratt says 208')
Length at Perps 178 ft (Spratt says 178'5")
Beam (presumably BOH) 25 ft 5in (Spratt says 25' 9 1/2")
Lots of engine data but no more hull dimensions.

"British Paddle Steamers" by Geoffrey Body in 1971 states on page 37:
"Sirius was only 178.4ft long" which I presume is the "perps"
measurement since it's virtually identical to Spratt.

The "perps" measurement which may be emerging consistently. My
understanding is this is the distance between the vertical point of
where the waterline meets the bow and the vertical point of the
sternpost (most usually just for'ard of the rudder axis at the
waterline.) Unfortunately this is where the ship's dimensions really
go out of wack with the measurements you made on the two models if we
use the 1:60 scale (Steingraeber) and 1:100 scale (Svezda.)

Hmmm..bit of a puzzler this whole thing!!

Another small book in my library came to light today. "Powered Ships-
the Beginnings" written in 1974 by an English author, Richard
Armstrong. He refers to "Sirius" dimensions as "208' long by 25'
beam". This concurs pretty much with Spratt and the concensus seems
to be leaning towards that length.
