Flame blow out

I have noticed that the flame goes out when I open up the steam valve  :-[.
I think this is due to the steam outlet which exits at the base of the funnel any advice would be welcome.

I used to have this trouble - the jet of steam up the funnel acts like the blower on a loco and sucks the flame off the burner. I now run the exhaust nearly to the top of the funnel, but more importantly flair the end out so the exhaust is "soft". It also gives a much better effect than having a jet of steam coming out.

Well observed my wife is infact legend within the club.
Steaming the boiler on the gas cooker,cutting timber on the table saw in the dinning room.

Added a small flare to the steam outlet tried it out with extention looks great thanks.
