Has anyone fitted a Wilesco D48 to a Glasgow or Strongbow Side Paddler?
Not sure if it will have enough power to drive the model.
Currently fitted with an electric motor but the power of steam is an attractive project

Steam has been added to both these boats successfully, however (and this is only my personal view) i would not put steam into a Glasgow and its hull is thinnish plastic and could be susceptible to excessive heat.  on the power front i am not familiar with the output of this particular engine, so i am leaving that part of the question of those familiar with the Wilesco

Hi, I have a Graupner Glasgow powered by a Wilesco D48. I haven't had any problems with power using this steam plant, however a 10 - 15min time run time is the best I have obtained. A problem which is encountered is it is difficult to light the gas as the D48 is designed to be lit through holes in the side and with the plant installed in the Glasgow, these are inaccessible. A long igniter has to be used to light the unit direct on the gas jet.

the installation looks great.
i opened up the hull access and fitted a piezo ignition . superstructure gets too hot so will abort the installation until i purchase a different boiler with smoke stack that i can rebuild the superstructure and align the funnel.
in the meantime am building another one with a heavier hull ( no balsa, except superstructure)  wider access through decking and design to remove and install powerplant and paddles in one piece.

had look at my photos but none are clear enough.
will set the unit up on the buildup board so the photos will be clear enough.
managed to pick up a 1:25 rc tank from the tip today. this will give me the option of independant paddle operation (electric) as the motors are 400's so power won't be a problem.
going to have to priotise my projects, everything in bits and jumping from one to another.
the steam may have to wait a bit longer, got this tank installation and rudder interconnection rattling around in my head at the moment. electronic or mechanical, mmmm............ time to read more posts
