Another idea...
I use 'eyes' from a hook and eye pack from a sewing shop. I have used them at the top of lifeboat dericks which were just brass rod bent over a suitable former.

Oh, and the hooks are great for hanging hanks of rope on railings.

Another idea i have yet to try is cotton bobbins for cable drums ...


I'm sure there must be hundereds of other great ideas out there so have started a post to see what others use ...
