On my way over to Murdieston Dam, home of the Greenock model boat club, with some friends last Tuesday evening when I spotted the funnels of the Waverly. Naturally a detour was in order and cameras were out. She is still being painted in preparation for the 2010 season but is looking magnificent. I did notice that the upper hull is painted an off white, (cream?), colour when my memory of previous seasons was white? Whatever the state of my ageing and unreliable memory the colour looked just right.

Yes the upper hull is a cream/off white shade, has been since her rebuild, when she was repainted in the original LNER colour scheme (or as close as possible).
That area was white before 2000.

I liked her white peronally!   

Took loads of close up shots but light was poor and exposure management poor in some shots. Now wish I had had the brass neck to ask to get on board to take more. Hopefully some may be of interest to the multitude of Waverly builders out there in PD land.

Hi Jack, me too, even just for a short while....do they not use various liveries on some of the preserved steam locos?

I suppose it is a marketing brand now though, people see red/white/black & think Waverley

Yes, they do use various liveries on locos. Unlike paddlers they are easier to repaint and have to be repainted more often, and being cheaper to repaint they are easy to change, especially if there are loads of preserved examples. However, some locos which are the only one of their type preserved normally stay in the same livery to suit the punters; but they once did City of Truro in a nice BR Black in the 80s-only half of her though, for photographs-all the enthusiasts went mad! The same thing would probably happen with Wav, and as you say, her Red, White and Black funnels are charachteristic now and an advertising point.

I have a suspicion that as part of getting the lottery money there are fairly strict requirements on maintaining the original colour scheme.

Although I would like to see the buff funnels too, it just wouldnt be Waverley!  For as long as I remember that pair of gleaming red funnels are a sight to behold!

Keep them red, and hurry her down to the South Coast, as I am in need of a Waverley fix!

Waverley at Penarth yesterday evening. I understand a certain Paddleducks member to be on shop duty.

I see the FWD air intakes s facing AFT........some of the mid ships air intakes facing FWD & AFT & the AFT air intakes facing Port & Stdb

You get her quite enough! We onbly get 10 sailings a year nowadays! We can send you the Balmoral up for the summer if you want? 

Kenny - she does make a few calls at newport. Already made one on 8th June. Next is Tuesday at 0930 for Combe returning at 2030. Get yourself up that gangway!
