Alan Pollock of Edinburgh MBC has just returned from a holiday in Italy, on his travels he photographed the following two boats...

He says:
Quote
' 'Milano' has a riveted hull so is probably from around 1910 and looks as if she was originally steam powered by paddles.  She runs the whole length of the lake (30 odd miles each way every day ) but is now diesel powered with a screw propeller. One of the paddle boxes is now a toilet and the other is a bar! The old engine space is a saloon for passengers. The other boat the 'Italia' is on Lake Garda and is a real paddle boat, now diesel driven and with independent control of each paddle.

:o I didn't realise Milano was no longer a paddler!
I do like the look of these continental steamers, La Suisse is possibly the best looking one ever in my opinion...

Eddy, would he mind if I used them for YPW?
There is also G Zanardelli on Lake Garda, but that comes out even less than Italia, mainly coming out in August. At the start of the year she was observed in Pescheira dry-dock-it appears she will now have an extended overhaul which is likely to include a new engine - hopefully this means she will be in service again in 2010.

I can't imagine that there would be any problem Jack, but I'll email him and check first.... I'll let you know as soon as I hear back from Alan.
