Hi,

my actual steam project of the Ammersee- PS (propeller steamer) SCHONDORF now comes to an end. All the engine and boiler equipment was integrated into the hull, with a lot of problems because of not so much space in the little hole of the ship´s house.

To integrate or to unfit is like a puzzle, worse than the engine operation of one of my citroen SM. I will have to note which nut is the first to open....

Now gas tank is under pressure and will be checked if all parts will be sealed fine, afterwards I will let the machinery run outside the water for the first control, and later when the Ammersee will be calm, the little model will join the water of its big original.

Very nice work. Making the brass hull seems like a lot of work!
Any chance to see a film of it sailing?

Hi Andreas.....typically......appears beautiful building of the boiler ..... ...but what is the large ...diaphragm pressure reducing valve @ 12.00 o'clock & midships external to the boiler ...that appears open or vent to atmosphere? .......

........and ......are the four deck level disk vents simply to allow air into the boiler room ? ........regards Derek  

Don't stop there...... ...in other snaps I see what I believe are heat shields on either side of the Anton engine...so does that mean that the apparent stainless steel outer shell of the boiler is simply an external heat shield.......with an air gap to the actual boiler shell?..... .........

Oh, so many questions!

Ok, as following:

The ship has no pressure reducing valve, let me describe the fittings.

At 9 o´clock from the boiler dome there is the steam valve, which has to be opened when the pressure in the boiler is enough. Goes to the main steam tube in direction to 12 o´clock.
At 12 o`Clock ther ist the ANTON valve which is the regulator for the steam during sailing, for fast and slow, connected with a RC servo.
Then the main steam tube leads into the funnel for overheating and then it makes a curve under the backboard deck and comes to this red ANTOn oiler at about 4 o´clock. From this it goes into the engine. The other tube, coming out of the engine is the exhaust, going outwards of the hull at its left side.

The additional valve at 6 o´clock of the boiler dome is a tube in connection with the atmospere for making the boiler empty. it comes from the boiler´s bottom and leads up for a vonnecting rubber tube and make it empty with the last pressure.

The ANTON engine has a Stevenson regulation, but they say only for use of forward/stop/backwards, but I will to have to check it in use.

The 4 round black parts in the Deck beside the boiler were the filling holes of the coal bunkers in the original ship. For the source with air I have the air trumpet on the left side of the Deck, the engine room skylight, and the black tin plates near the deckshouse, whose substructure is perforated.

The complicated way of the stem line between boiler and engine had to be made for acess and otherwise I could not have got the connection to the RC servos.

The silver covering of the boiler is a 0,5 aluminium plate, between this and the boiler wall 2mm balsa wood. The silver inox bands around the boiler for fasten ist, is a LIGAREX system collier, which is also used at my citroens.
The black aluminium heat shields beside the ANTOn engine are for protecting RC (right side) and the servos for the engine and rudder (left side).

I did not make any film, because the model needs a testing phase out of the water, and then it will have its maiden sailing including a video.

My dream was to built a landing bridge of wood for the 2 models and make pictures here at the beach of the Ammersee including the landscape, which was the original water for the originalsteamers

excellent work, even the details are so well realized, that the impression "that`s the real ship!" is perfect.
Scale is 1 : 20, I presume?
What`s about the stability?

I have some materials about the shipping on the Bavarian lakes (member of the "Förderverein..."). The paddle- and screwsteamers were fascinating with their well constructed engineering and beautiful apperance.

It would be nearly like a time travel, if you will make photos of "Diessen" and "Schondorf" in the correct perspective on the Ammersee!

The trimming of the model was perfect, I did not need any grams of plomb weights, because the engine and boiler was built according to the original equipment.

Ok, now I understand what you meant!- took a lot of time!

This is no membrane valve, this only is the cover of the steam dome. Fitted with screws for getting acess into the boiler.
