Hi group.  Jerry from Anchorage, Alaska here. 

This is my first post to this group.

While I'm not a boat modeler, I am very interested in steam engines.  It seems that those two topics are pretty closely connected.

I do a lot of metal work, mostly home shop tinkering, and am a commercial pilot by trade.  I fly small twins for a charter company in Anchorage.
 
My metal working is with a 9x20 lathe, a similarly sized mill, a Mig, & a Tig welder, & the usual assortment of hand tools.

I have a picture that I shall attempt to post.  Some of you may remember reading about the sternwheeler that ran aground in Alaska 2-3 years ago.  I have a pic of it in Ketchikan, Alaska on its first trip after being repaired.  I think it is impressive.  I'll title the pic Sternwheeler3.

I was mostly successful at uploading the pic of the sternwheeler.

Hi Jerry. I enjoyed your Sternwheler 3 picture.  I am considering a model very like this. I like the links in your web page too.  The tool grinding is good for tool steel.  Nowadays everyone seems to use TC, but other than for hard cast Iron, I don't see the need.  The tool profiles need to be different for the two cutting materials, and we can still learn a thing or two from older articles.
