I've just been watching the Champ car race from the Road America circuit in the USA on Eurosport.....

The only female driver in the race, Katherine Legge, suffered a rear wing failure just as her car was entering a 190mph bend - The result was the most horrendous crash I've ever seen in my life!!

Needless to say I thought she would be dead, or at the very least severely injured - But ten minutes late there she was, as large as life, standing outside the medical centre waving to the cameras!

Absolutely amazing!! And good on ya Katherine! I've never felt so relieved to see a driver in one piece in my life.

Hi Eddie - I know this is an old post, I just noticed it. I live just a few miles from Road America - I can hear the cars from my back yard. I was there that day but didn't see the accident. It was in a part of the track that can't really be seen by spectators. When it was anounced what happened and we saw the remains of the car being taken into the pits it got pretty quiet. Everyone was very much afraid of what we would hear next. When she came out of the medical trailer and said she would get back in her car if it was still in one piece, people were laughing and crying at the same time.
I'll be there next year rooting for her -- for sure!!!

I know this is a really old topic, but for those that didn't see the crash, take a look at the following link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCI-QSt0hpE

Katherine Legge was taken to the on-track medical centre, and amazingly she walked out unhurt less than 30 minutes later!!

It's one of those clips that sends shivers down your spine when you watch it!
