Hello Gerald and those in the North over the pond, a question of ignorance on my part here ;) "Are you still part of the Commonwealth?" and "If you are why was the Royal element dropped?" ;D It must be those separatists htat speak with the funnny lingo and had a revolt a few centuries back, when the Royal really got the drop of Madame La Guillotine.

Yes we are still part of the Commonwealth. The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) was the navy of Canada from 1911 until 1968 when the three Canadian services were unified to form the Canadian Armed Forces. The unification was billed as an efficiency and cost saving matter, it cut many British traditions from our forces and caused many resignations and a slump in recruitment. All the forces were required to wear the same army style uniform, this has since been changed back to individual styles. As to the separatists I will not make any comments on a public forum (Eddy would have to ban me).

Hi Gerald, thanks for the info on the amalgamation. I had not realised the length of time that they'd been off the track of tradition. There is a lot to be said for regimentation and the best way is definitely to keep square bashing or the like. I apologise for atttempting to bring you into disrepute and I would not have baneed you :D#
On a serious note, come on all Cnadians support the petition,you know it is worthwhile :trophy

Hi Gerald. I wish I could sign your petition. In my part of the world those who know are fiercely proud of our connection with the RCAF. Our area was known as the WHITE ROSE BASE and contained many Canadian bomber command squadrons. I live only 3 miles from Middleton St George airfield which hosted two Canadian Squadrons which suffered many losses in the cause of world freedom. Our Darlington club lake is less than a mile from the end of the runway. Whenever there is a reunion it gets massive local support from people who served with the Canadians. I remember being moved to tears at one of them. (Not easy for me). At the end of the outdoor service attended by hundreds of people on the airfield a Lancaster did a very low flypast over the gathering followed by a Tiger Moth. To see these wonderful old airman crying with memories and pride would have turned a stone to pulp.
When the Lancaster landed all these old men were young again, rushing out to "kick thr tyres" and to climb on arthritic legs into turrets and the fuselage with their youth brought back again.
All true Canadians should rebel at the way faceless levelers try to reduce pride and tradition to a beurocratic non identity. They should be proud of their traditions and sacrifice. Young men have always given their all so that politicians and penpushers can sit at home wringing their hands and wondering where they can make the next cut.
All National forces are built on tradition and when I first read of this stupid change I could not believe it.
IF I WERE CANADIAN I WOULD MAKE SURE ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS SIGNED THIS PETITION SO THAT CANADA COULD GET ITS PROUD HERITAGE BACK.
