Paddleducks

Many of you may think of me as a sober and clean living citizen of great moral turpitude and sobriety, but yes, I have a dark side. I have been known to sample the odd drop of  REAL ALE or malt whiskey to ward off the agues.
In my travels I have been known to visit hostelries with names rwlated to paddle steamers. So, how about a bit of fun and compile a world wide list of paddle steamer pubs ?. heres a couple for starters.

THE WAVERLEY, PENRITH, CUMBRIA.
THE DERBYSHIRE, SEAHOUSES, NORTHUMBERLAND. (on my last visit there was an old model of the PS Derbyshire in the windiw).
THE GRIMSBY CASTLE , GRIMSBY. (a floating pub,  the old Humber paddler).

I don't know if it still exists as I haven't been there for over 20 years but...
There used to be a bar called 'The Paddler' on Herne Bay seafront, they had lots of paddlesteamer items inside such as navigation lights, name plates, an engine room telegraph etc.

Hardly worth mentioning, but, another Humber ferry, Tattershall Castle, near embankment station, London. Only thing recognisable is the engine now (and half of that is obscured by the racks of electrical equipment installed there)

Elswhere in Paddleducks, you will find references to:
* One tied up in Moskva.
* One tied up in Donaukanal (Wien)
* PV Murray River Queen, usually as a static b&b & restaurant at Waikerie SA, but now making regular lunch & dinner cruises, plus occasional weekend ones.

There's the 'Scotia' in glasgow - with  the most amazing ceramic tile picture of the paddler on the wall.

Hi Stuart. Whereabouts in Glasgow is the Scotia Pub. Is the Picture inside or outside?. I must visit it and get a picture ( and a pint). I have a small collection of beer pump badges for brews relating to ships though sadly no brewery has made a pint called The Feathered Wheel or similiar! Regards, walter.

My wife informs me, quite correctly I assume as she's usually right, that I am a plonker! She says I'm thinking of the Scotia BAR in Glasgow which is nothing to do with the ship. I however was probably thinking of the Scotia Pub in the Mile End Road South shields. The pub sign is attached.

This is of the subject slightly, but in Greenock, in an underpass below the main roundabout, there are large pictures of paddlers on ceramic tiles, unfortunately a lot of the time they are covered in grafitti. I think there are about ten in all.

This is N A Dobrolyubov, one of the same 737 class as the Lena River steamers.  Its career ended when it burned, date uncertain [my photos were taken on 23.12.85].  The restaurant name was something like Bourgas.

This is PV Murray River Queen, based at Waikerie (South Australia).
It has a restaurant, bar and cafe.
Since placing that post, I have sprinkled a few other exterior photos in other posts.
The boat now has a website: www.murrayriverqueen.com.au
It has several photos of the interiorior of the dining room and of the cafe/bar.
