Everything seems to make sense ....apart from the four thickness marking gauges.....why x four?  ..... three appear to be the same length & the shorter one has a vernier type screw in the end for fine adjustment.........Derek

Can anyone name each tool? 

I am having a little difficulty with

1. the brass disks  to our right of the fourth jack plane.......or above the Masonic symbol
2. the shapely brass plate 8 looking item which is just above the chuck end of the breast drill  ...could it be a divider & marked in degrees?
3. have just noticed a fifth thickness gauge just below the third & fourth jack plane    ....
4. above the brass disks....standing vertically.....could they be different sized 'awls'? ..........Derek

I think most of us would like to have such a tool chest.

I do have a lot of tools but not stored in such a beautifull chest

Is the marking gauge with an adjusting screw a mortice gauge?  If so, the screw would be to adjust the spacing between the pins so as to be able to mark both sides of the mortice at once.

Perhaps the reason for having so many gauges is that the point should be a different shape for marking along and across the grain?  (I only had one and the body split, since when I have relied on a jenny calliper).
