a couple of years back I mentioned that wilkinsons had sets of mini LED christmas lights for £1.99 which was quite good compared to the cost in maplin (though I have found them online at a good price since then)
I just saw today that 'QD' have those too but also have sets with 20 grain-of-wheat/grain-of-rice lamps at the same price - ideal for anyone who doesn't want their model to look like it has flourescent lights inside!
these are 40p each or £4.75 for ten in 4D model shop, don't know about elsewhere
"QD"? Who the heck is QD???
Regards
Eddy
it's a shop in the high street where I live, it's similar to wilkinsons. they have a site - http://www.qdstores.co.uk/search.html?pagenum=1 but I only see the LED ones on there
At the risk of sounding like a complete self advert -

I have done some experiments with LEDs from Poundland (those circular lights to go round tent poles- Ithink theres about 20-24LEDs in each) and run on two AA batteries.. I painted each bulb a thin orangy yellow and tried them inWaverley. The result was a nice warm glow- not garish like LEDs. Regards, Walter.
I've tried colouring leds to look more like filament bulbs worked well enough on the larger (5mm) ones but the smaller ones (3mm) seem to have a bluish light to start with - still it should be possible, just hsve to experiment a bit more!
I did in fact buy a set of the xmas lights, (just in case I need some later when they no longer sell them), this is how they look compared to the leds...
could have a model railway use too!
