Hello All,

Can anyone give me information about this paddle steamer. I only know
that it has a vertical beam engine and is a side wheeler. Where is
this paddle steamer? Is it still in service? Has it been scrapped?

It is preserved on dry land a mile or two from Lake Champlain at the
Shelburne Museum, and has been there for many years, having been moved there
in 1955.

Hello Robert,

I visited her in the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont, USA in
September of this year. The museum has a web site at:

She is on blocks on dry land, and she appears to be in very good shape. The
engine is difficult to photograph due to the close quarters. There is an
animated model of the engine on board. She is quite a beauty, and I bought
a drawing of her in the gift shop. The drawing is now hanging in my shop in
a place of honour beside a drawing of the SS "Great Britain". I have tried
to scan the drawing, and you can see the results of my crude cut and paste
of part of the drawing at:

Note that I have left the drawing large, and it's almost 3Mb in size. If
you would like a smaller drawing, email me at:

will leave the drawing at the above site for a few days, and then I will
have to remove it.

Unfortunately, there are no hull lines on the drawing.

I suspect that if you email the museum gift store at the email address given
on the museum web site, they will tell you how to order the drawing. I seem
to recall a book or two about her in the store. I note that the museum is
closed for the winter until sometime in April 2003.

i'm a newby and i am looking for information on the ticonderoga twelve
years ago i built this boat but, the plans i had are gone now i am
wanting to rebuild as the boat i have in the bathtub washes water over
the main deck i think my hull is too heavy at the time i did not know
how to build a lighter hull now i am in a position that i have time to
rebuild it the plans i had came out of a library book, i think any
information would be greatly appreciated if you are interested i
upload some pictures of what i have done thank you

Thank you both for the information regarding the PS Ticonderoga. Thanks Robert for the excellent drawing jpg which I have copied at 3mb and have reduced its size to print onto A4 paper. I shall copy to disc as I have access to an A3 printer. I will view the museum website for further details.

The curator at the Shelburne Museum is Chip Stulen. I recently had
questions for him about the Ti because I am working on a model steamer of
about the same vintage. he was very helpful and told me that the ship had
been well documented and that the results were, I believe at the Smithsonian
Institute. I have since cleared my files, but you can contact him at
info@shelburnemuseum.org . The museum itself is currently closed for the
season. I know because I was going to go there to look at the ship. The
web site will tell you when it reopens in the spring.
