Name-boards / name-plates
« on: September 18, 2016, 10:32:42 AM »
I am looking for a manufacturer of name-boards/nameplates. I think that I saw a mention of one on my last visit here. I've tried, unsuccessfully, to search for the mention and I'm hoping that one of the members might know where I can find one. I'm
just starting to build my superstructure so I'm not in any great hurry but I always like to have things to hand when I do need them. My hands are too shaky to do the lettering myself. Thank you in advance.

Keep on rolling

Jack

Hi Jack, do you have a picture of what you're needing?

I found this picture posted to the yahoo group by Eddy Mathews in 2009. This is the type of thing that I am looking for but, I want the name to be Michaela Ann.

Jack if you have a printer or know someone who does you can print them on water slide decal paper or the latest innovation is coloured or clear printable self adhesive sheets see this example.

When I built my model of the "Suter" I just painted some name boards made from polystyrene sheet, and added BECC self adhesive lettering... You can see it in the following thread: http://www.paddleducks.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1358.0

BECC lettering is available in a whole range of sizes and colours from most decent model shops in the UK... I also used it for the lettering on the rear of the superstructure "US Engineers Department".

Hope that helps?

Eddy

I just noticed your comment about shaky hands..... If you'd like to cut out the name boards and paint them in the colour you want, send them to me with some suitable sized BECC lettering, I would be more than happy to do the lettering for you. It is a bit fiddly!

I'm only in Pickering (North Yorkshire), so we aren't that far from each other!

Thank you both for your quick replies. Funnily enough, I have recently treated myself to a printer so will start by trying out Damien's suggestion. I'm forced to go into town today, apparently there's a pint with my name on it down at the pub, so will call into Office Supplies and get some 'paper'. While I am there, I will also try to get some BECC lettering as suggested by Eddy. What does BECC stand for? I am completely new to modelling and so am ignorant about a lot of the terminology.

BECC is just the name of the company that makes the lettering etc. God knows what it stands for! :)

Cheers Damien, it's a small world, my great-grandmother's name was Emma Berry.
I wish that my hands were steady enough to do my own lettering. I've just bought some stick-on lettering both 3 and 4 mm high and am playing around with my printer to see which looks best. Today I'm working on the main deck accommodation, so it will be a couple of weeks before I'm ready for the name-boards.
