Hi friends and neighbors,

yesterday I made - temperatures reaching 38 Degree Celsius - an excursion to the well known Bavarian lakes, both has an very interesting maritime history.

First I visited the Starnberg museum. For my opinion the most interesting exhibit is the 1 : 100 model of the baroque styled Paddler "Luitpold", after 1918 named "München". "Luitpold", built 1890 by Maffei was a unique paddler. Not only the outside was in baroque style, also the interior was not very far from the taste of the Bavarian King Ludwig II, who died a few years bevore.
It was a shame, that this unique ship was scrapped in 1955. Beside the "Luitpld"  you see the model of the more plain "Wittelsbach" from 1880. Builder of the models is Anton Happach from Munich.

The Bavarian eagle in the park ist the last remaining part of the paddler "Bavaria", Escher-Wyss, 1878 - 1940, photo after.

In the late afternoon I reached the Lake Ammersee, not far away. In former times 4 paddlesteamers plied the water.
In 2002 a very succesful replica with dieselhydraulic propulsion was set in operation, the "Herrsching".
Because this got very good results by the passengers, a few years later a further similar paddlevessel "Diessen" was following. The last paddlesteamer of the same name from 1908 - later also with dieselhydraulic propulsion - had to be scrapped in 2006, because new regulations of safety. Our member Andy has made a fantastic detailed steamdriven model of this ship.
The "Herrsching" has the original steampipe from paddler "Gisela", 1884 - 1964. For making the real sound, a small steamboiler was installated.
Now I hope, you will enjoy the pictures...

Sorry, the monument in the park of course is not an eagle, it`s the Bavarian lion...
