throttle/rudder mixer for a drogher.
« on: March 19, 2013, 12:16:50 AM »
hi PD's

just about to complete a drogher and would like to instal a throttle/rudder input. the vessel has no rudder/s and relies solely on the independently powered paddles mounted just forward of the stern. instead of using both throttle and elevator t/x outputs for the control of the esc's i would like to simplify the operation by using a mixer but up until now the only mixers available do not select reverse on the inboard side of the turn while the outboard side is still in forward.
has anyone maybe worked out a circuit for a sidepaddler tug or suchlike?

hi PD's
had a fantastically quick response form action-electronics.co.uk and they have a P94 multi controller that will actually perform all the functions i require. bear in mind that this controller has dual esc's built in.

Hi PD's.....yes Gordon I was going to suggest you look at the ACTion electronics

Dave Milborne has recently sold the business but the design & quality of the components is outstanding  :great

I still have a swag of ACTion gear from approx. 8 years back ......Derek

Hi,
the  module from  action-electronic is very proper, but there are some simpliest ways too,  I can recommend mainly  the article about this problem at action-electronic  WEB pages.
 Dual mixer for ships (  www.action-electronics.co.uk  )  ,
you can use simple  V-tail mixer too, (for RC planes) or directly mixer in RC aparature (RC transceiver.. e.g  HK6,or HK9 ..  .I especially recommend the discussion of the EPS  and the tail mixers, possibly about programming RC transmitters and the receiver using a mixer, which can be found under the individual products, which you can find at (  http://www.hobbyking.com  /)
There is a possibility to use !tank steering", but control paddle wheels using the mixer seems to me still more elegant
Steam....GO!

well PDs
got my drogher into the water at our sail day last sunday. very pleased with it's performance considering the hull width. independent paddle control and no rudder was interesting but easily learnt. running a locally made smoke generator 12v. paddles 180 mm x 30mm at 80 rpm produced an authentic hull speed. can play a bit with this by battery voltage increase and/or reduction gear changes. the 385's draw hardly any current at all. the drogher is work in progress with wool bales, grain sacks, lighting etc when time permits.
the photo was taken at our pond but unfortunately with grey skies and murky green water, the clarity isn't that good
