I'm in the process of building a scale model (R/C) of the Chesapeake Bay
Side wheel Steamboat Emma Giles.
I just spent a week in England, visiting book stores. I purchased a book
about American side wheelers in the U.S. Light House Service. No plans, but
plenty of pictures and info, no plans. If anyone is interested in these side
wheelers, I'll be happy to share.

Bob...thanks for the interesting thread.. I would be VERY interested
to hear more about these Light House paddlers. What period were they
operating? Where? Last vessel?
Do you have some vessel names that I could research and maybe open a
folder on? AND BETTER STILL..if you have access to a scanner, then
maybe a couple of pictures of your favourite ones in the book.
BTW what is the title of the book?

Last thing..we havn't had a modeling update on "Emma" for a while..be
nice to hear how she's coming along.

(#1)I would be VERY interested to hear more about these Light House
paddlers.

(#2) What period were they operating? 1840 thru 1939 when the Lightuouse
Service became part of the US Coast Guard.

(#3) Where? East & West Coast, Alaska, Gulf of Mexico, All major rivers,
Great Lakes and the central pacific. Even Cuba and Puerto Rico.

(#4) Last vessel? Last sternwheeler was built in 1927 USLHT Wakerobin,
decommissioned in 1955. Memphis, Tenn was her homeport. She was passed to
the USArmy Corp of Eng in 1955, for years, she was moored in the Ohio River
south of Cincinnati. In 1980 she was purchased to become a restaurant. In
1992 she became the USS Nightmare, an annual haunted ship event in
Cincinnati. Last reported doing the same haunted bit in Pittsburg, PA area.

(#5) Do you have some vessel names that I could research and maybe open a
folder on? How about a whole book of them.

(#6) AND BETTER STILL..if you have access to a scanner, then
maybe a couple of pictures of your favourite ones in the book. Much to big a
project.

(#7)BTW what is the title of the book? "UNITED STATES LIGHTHOUSE SERVICE
TENDERS 1840 - 1939 " by Douglas Peterson, USCG (Ret) published by
www.eastwindpublishing.com

(#8) Modeling update on "Emma" for a while..be nice to hear how she's coming
along. Still in the study stage, although I have found a die-hard steamboat
fanatic who isn't computer savvy. Sort of a private treasure for the time
being. His family history is loaded with steamboat Captains and Bay Pilots.

I'm still interested in the feathering paddle arrangement.
