Steam engines for paddlers

I think you all might enjoy this latest addition to our bookmarks
entitled "STEAM ENGINES IN MOTION" which you can find at

Animated motions are shown for the following types of steam engine:

"CENTRE BEAM" Engine
"GRASSHOPPER" Beam Engine
"OSCILLATING" Engine
"WATT BEAM" Engine

These engines would be very effective in a Model Paddle Steamer either
as LIVE STEAM or as electrically driven simulations to illustrate the
movement and drive to the paddle(s).

I'm somewhat familiar with the Cheddar models steam plants used for
steam launches.... but I'd be interested to know if there is anyone
who manufactures authentic models of BEAM engines.

Next question (TJ and Riverboaters..you listening?)...what was the
type(s) of steam engine used to power Sternwheelers ? And for anyone
else who knows about Steam engines, what were the types used for
Sidepaddlers. (I believe the "Walking Beam" was used on some early
ones.) So what's a "Walking Beam" as opposed to "Grasshopper" and
"Centre Beam"?

The guy who did these animations indicates he's willing to do others
(maybe for paddlers) if we could find an accurate source of reference.
