Stuart Triple Expansion Unmachined Set of Castings
« on: November 18, 2010, 02:01:40 PM »
I'm considering building two of these kits for a boat.
They look absolutely stunning! I like the pump addition.
Can I use one boiler or is it better to have two? I have plenty of space.
Can anyone who has built this engine give me some advice.
My business partner owns a CNC machine shop, so no problems with that part of the build.
I have installed full-scale steam boilers but I'm new to scale model steam engines/boilers.
I need two of these for my boat. I will be turning 2 screws in a 36" length boat.
Thanks,
Giovanni

I think you might be overpowering a hull that size with two of those motors. There's a couple of steam boats in our club and they only run twin cylinder oscillators in that size hull. You might need to look at the size of boiler you'll need as well as I'd imagine they'd need a lot of steam. Not to mention the weight of it all.

Specifications:

Height 6 Inches.
Discwheel Diameter 2 1/4 Inches.
Cylinder Bores 3/4 Inch, 1 1/4 Inches & 1 3/4 Inches.
Cylinder Stroke 1 Inch.

I'm actually building an all-metal Jules Verne style amphibious vehicle that of course travels over water, land and snow. It will have two Archemedes screws, each driven by a steam engine with toothed belts & pulleys.
I know this may sound very untraditional but I build vintage all-metal models.
I am building an all-metal 1/12Th scale USS Holland submarine now.
Here are some helical screw-driven vehicles..

I don't think it can be ordered in a finished state.

You think the engine never was built and there are only not assembled sets of parts?

NEVER!
