Krick Mark Twain

Hello to all,
I would like to ask if anyone has any experience with a "Krick Mark Twain" kit #20270 ?
The end of the box is marked "Made in west germany" to give an approximate date.
I would like to know about age, cost, performance, The kit build?

Hi,

the Mark Twain Kit was produced approximately between 1989 to 1995 by the famous Krick modelling
in South Germany. It is a very exact kit, all is laser cutted and the materials are of good quality.

The included oscillating direct acting steam engine is simple, but reliable.
I used the engine in the far bigger model of the sternwheeler "Zulu". The power also was quite good - but only in connection with a stronger flame tube and silver soldered boiler from the german manufaktur Regner.
The original included boiler of the kit is only tin soldered, the flame tube is rather narrow, so the steam pressure will only allow to rise 1,5 bar or about 20 pounds, this seems to less for a bigger model, but perhaps enought for the "Mark Twain". I would made or buy a new silver soldered boiler for this nice model.

One presumes, that the original of the "Mark Twain" was a Mississippi steamer, but this wasn`t.

The original was a german build sternwheeler (Hamburg 1926), he was sended in parts to  South America for use on a inland river. In the Deutsches Museum (German museum) in Munich you can see a fine and exact model of this boat, very similar to the "Mark Twain".

Thank you for your reply. I have had several older Krick kits in the past. currently I have a SG38 glider in the box. From what I know of their kits they make a quality product. I have an opportunity to purchase the mark twain and wanted as much info as I could get.
