Resin casting paddlewheels
« on: June 13, 2005, 06:42:21 AM »
There's a thread started up on Modelboats to do with resin casting and
it reminded me that I cast my sidewheel frames for my 1/64 "Director"
in polyester resin. It really worked out very well..as I only had to
make one frame (but needed four) and the wheels ended up very light
and (reinforced with styrene)remarkably strong. They really spin quite
true too.

What is nice is that you CAN create all kinds of fancy detail (rivet
lines and plates etc) on the master that you might hesitate to do
if you had to do FOUR wheel rings.

So the question is..has ANYBODY CAST PADDLE WHEEL PARTS FROM POLYESTER
RESIN? AND...is it possible to create a set of masters for a
sternwheel that would greatly reduce the construction time with
interlocking castings that could be simply glued together.

Think about it and let us know
