Software upgrade
« on: March 10, 2010, 09:55:31 AM »
Hi guys,

A new bug fixed version of the forum software we use came out yesterday, so this morning at 6am I decided to upgrade the forum......

Guess what? It screwed up every bit of software we use! So I've spent the entire day modifying things to work with this "simple" upgrade! by 8pm (after 14 hours!) I eventually managed to get everything to work!

One new thing I've added is the "Member Map" - We had something similar a while ago, but this is all new, using Google maps. So now you can add your location to the map so other members can see where you are. Sadly it was impossible to import the data from our previous Member Map software, so you'll need to add your location again should you wish to....

As with all of these major upgrades, there's almost certainly something I've missed, so if you notice something that isn't there, or doesn't work as expected, please let me know!

Regards
Eddy

As always many thanks for your sterling work. As a former IT man the words Software and Upgrade in the same sentence send a chill down my spine.

Thanks Andy,

I should have known things wouldn't go smoothly from previous experience, but hey, we're all sorted now - Hopefully!

One point, just in case anyone thinks there is a problem...... if something doesn't appear to work, try clearing your browsers cache and see if that cures things before reporting an issue....

Browsers store often used pages in their cache to speed up browsing, but that can cause problems when a site has been updated!

Having done some IT work "Software and Upgrade " ether as Andy said "send a chill down my spine" or "Overtime again eh". It was almost the same feeling as when they would drop a set of complicated parts drawing for a new part and say "We promised the customer it will be shipped tomorrow"

Gerald.
