Glasgow Transport Museum's Clyde Room - now closed

As per the title - was in there today while waiting for one of the kids to finish an Athletics event.
The models wont be back out on display until 2011 however a member of staff said special viewings can be arranged at the GMRC (??)

All of the models are being moved to the new Riverside Museum which is due to open in Spring 2011.

Lets hope they are displayed properly, and it's not one of these new "touchy-feely" museums that have nothing but information boards!

The Glasgow Transport Museum, and in particular the Clyde Room was always one of my must see attractions whenever I was in the Glasgow area.

Also in on 13th and disappointed. However I was informed it was closed because of staff shortage and would reopen during the week. Left hand and Right hand syndrome but will try to check. Given this could be a last chance to see some, if not most, of these models I'll persevere.

Hello dear friends and neighbors,

A request to anyone, who is engaged with the new Riverside Museum in Glasgow:

My new demanding project is a 1 : 48 model of Irrawaddy steamer "China", steam driven.
The plans a got from National Maritime Museum, the model will have a lenght of 2 meters in this scale - it would be my largest model (until now).
To make some preparations and photos, I would like to make a visit of the new Riverside Museum in Glasgow until summer.
In autumn I think I can start the projekt.

In the former Glasgow Transport Museum there was also a 1 : 48 model of Irrawaddy steamer "Nepaul", which is most similar to "China".

Please can anyone tell me, whether the "Nepaul" and other interesting Clyde build paddlers are visible in the new
museum? If yes, how are the location and is it possible to make photos?

The ship models in the new museum are mainly housed in a series of conveyor belts behind a glass screen. Inevitably the day I visited the device wasn't working and I only saw a percentage of the models. I can't say therefore whether the models you are interested in are on display. This new display arrangement has attracted much criticism, justified in my opinion, as the view of the higher level models is of the underside of the hull. I don't wish to prejudice your visit but I fear that you will be disappointed in the contrast with the old Clyde Room.

The model of "China" is the highest on the right side of the picture - unfortunately not very good visible...
