I thought it might be a nice idea to have a list of all the Paddle Steamers represented by our member's models.
If you think it's a good idea post details of the model's name, scale, LOA and type of power and date of the original ship and I'll put it together. Non scale models too of course!

What do you all think?

I think it's a great idea, there used to be such a list on the old site as I remember, with info such as;
builder (owner if you'd bought one completed)
name (of the paddler)
scale
state of build (working, under construction - if you were making it yourself, undergoing restoration etc)
static/radio control....

I currently have;
Princess Elizabeth (scratchbuilt) - R/C - under construction, 1:48
Paddle Tug (un-named as yet - freelance) working, 1:48
Alumchine (scratchbuild), R/C, 'almost' completed (just need a few fittings) 1:32
Freshwater (scratchbuild) RC - under construction, 1:32
Tattershall Castle (scratchbuild) R/C -  under construction (shelved for now due to the sheer size and weight of the thing  but will be revived - maybe next!) 1:32
Royal Connaught (PBM edwardian paddler kit bought as completed static model) R/C (I've sailed it about 3 times), shelved for now due to 'stability problems' but to be restored, 1:64 approx
Leann (scratchbuild, freelance australian-style diesel paddler replica) free running - I never got around to fitting R/C!  1:32

Nice idea Stuart.... Here's a few of mine, some I still own, others have been moved on.

Forceful
Director class paddletug, used by the Royal Navy for berthing aircraft carriers. Forceful was built in 1957 by Yarrow Shipbuilders, Scotstoun. The model is 1:48 scale.

Creole Queen
Mississippi sternwheeler, built at Moss Point, Mississippi in 1983. The model is 1:48 scale.

Sterling
Based on the Graupner Glasgow (another fictitious tug), scale approx 1:40.

Sir William Wallace
Firth of Forth paddle ferry, built by Wm Denny in 1956. The model is 1:32 scale, complete with a deck full of vehicles that I daren't say what they cost!

Suter
Sternwheel towboat, builder unknown, used by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The model is 1:32 scale.

Hjejlen
Built in 1861 by Baumgarten & Burmeister Shipyard, Copenhagen. The model is a static display model at approx 1:75 scale from the now discontinued Billings kit.

Glen Usk. Built at Troon by Ailsa ship building 1914, owners P & A Campbell Bristol. Two cylinder compound.
Model built by Geoff Yarham Teignmouth, 2001, 1/4"= 1ft  Twin cylinder ociltor. Length 61. 3/4"

Old Trafford built 1907 by Eltringham & Co for the Manchester ship Canal Company. Model is 1/24 scale. Twin puffin steam engines.

Under construction RMS Connaught built 1860 for the City of Dublin Steam Packet Company by Laird & Son scale 5/16 inch to the foot.

[Tug--Kenny]

Here's my Waverley. She is 65 inches long, with over 20 lights and a smoke machine.  There is a sound generator, reported to be the Waverley's engine, with variable speed linked to the paddles.

Modified SHG Lady Janet (by PD member Chipmonk). Showing a lovely paddler wash.    


Having stability problems with this one.

Hi Gerald,

Sorry to disappoint, she is electric. 12v Buehler motor. AAA Nimh batteries hidden under the seats. Believe you are a steam buff.

She does have an incense burner in the stack which I haven't had working yet. Chris has kindly sent me the instructions and I will try this out in the spring.

Currently she is like all my models, r/c etc removed for the winter and brought into the warmth of the house, from the shed.

Must say how pleased I am with her.
