A few photos
« on: November 10, 2009, 08:49:43 PM »
A few photos I stumbled across while browsing around the other night - I thought they may be of interest?

#1. Mercury at Weymss Bay towards the end of her career when in LMS colours.
#2. The paddle steamer Caledonia
#3. Caledonia in her wartime colours, circa 1944
#4. Jeanie Deans in her wartime colours
#5. HMS Skiddaw with an AA balloon aloft in 1939

Two damaged sepia photos I found ....
I think of PS Ivanhoe, firstly arriving at Rothesay, and I'm not sure where she is departing in the second pic, although I do recognise the headland in the background, got a block!!!

Clark,

I'd hazard a guess that the headland in the Ivanhoe pic is actually the North end of Holy Isle and the pic is at Lamlash. This would also fit in with her route.

Cheers Mercury,
You could well be correct there, for some reason I thought of Lochranza (but the headland is too far away).
Both these pics were possibly taken on the same cruise, and, as you say, it fits in with her route.

Hi Sandy,
Pretty sure its Lamlash as Mercury says, I got a photo showing the north tip of  Holy Isle to compare, and now I can't find it to post    ::)
