In october 2009 I posted a request for advice regarding stability issues with the paddle tug Iona. I was grateful to receive several helpful replies which shows what a friendly website PD is.

Despite various sensible suggestions I decided to be bloody minded and do my own thing. With the help of my "flexi curve" I redrew the hull sections and added half an inch to the draft. The extra bouyancy allowed me to add sufficient extra ballast to make Iona as steady as a rock even in fresh winds on our exposed lake at Tynemouth.

I am happy to say that the boat has no tendency to "dig in".

The severe winter last year prevented me from laying up the GRP hull until late spring, and family commitments ensured that the build has taken over a year to complete. However I was able to sail her in a very unfinished state at Paddler Day in september (masquerading as "Craster").

Thank you all again for your interest which encouraged me to go on....

Joe

Now then Mr Hardy, where did that wheelhouse come from?
Not on the orginal drawing as you and I know!
Any way, you are now entering the clever side of model boating!

Having seen the Iona at our Paddler Day in september, I can certainly confirm that it is indeed very stable! Well done Joe!

Thanks Eddy despite the fact that "Iona" lacks sails I must confess that I am rather pleased with her
