Canvas cover?

Does anyone have a photo of a ships lifeboat with it's canvas cover fitted - I need to fit canvas covers on the Sir William Wallace lifeboats, and suddenly realised I don't really know what the heck they should look like!

I've only ever seen models with covered lifeboats, and never taken any real notice of the lifeboats on real ships! So I have no idea what shape the cover should be, or how its held in place...

Hi Eddy

I have attached aphoto of a relatively modern lifeboat with cover (circa 1950) the colour of the cover is horrid! I favour green canvas myself. I usually use green sugar paper from an artshop (used for pastels) to make my covers. You can crumple the paper, smooth it flat with a cold iron and then cut out the cover including the rope attacments, The paper takes on a nice 'used' look after this treatment. Hope this helps!

I'm not sure if I'll get all these minor bits and pieces done in time for the Paddler Day, but I'm trying my best to get the model as close to finished as I can.... though I think I'm fighting a losing battle

I have used the thin cover you get inside boxes of margarine (flora I think) to simulate canvas lifeboat covers before, it was a slightly embossed foil type stuff looks quite good after painting & holds its shape well. unfortunately they have changed it now & the new stuff won't work as well...however I was looking at a block of butter the other day in tesco & it was in a foil wrapper

'I can't believe it's not butter' and 'what, not butter?' still have the textured foil inside the lid - I used some for the speaker on this 1/25th jukebox I built
Incidentally, probably not useful for boats but all the chrome on it is styrene covered with aluminium tape for lagging hot water pipes.....

I like it, a great model! what inspired you to build such an unusual subject? Makes you wonder how much of a paddler you could build at the supermarket, & what would it be called eg the Bristol Cream or Jeanie Beans or perhaps the Marchioness of Corn ok ok enough

The jukebox? I have a real one and far as I can tell, that's how it's supposed to look (the speaker grille and half the chrome is missing but it does play ok), just decided one day to make that in the colours I've been told it would've been when it was new...
