deck planking
« on: June 17, 2009, 06:03:29 AM »
Hi PDs
Does anyone have any suggestions as to whats the best glue to use to stick lime wood planking over a ply sub deck? I have heard contact glue mentioned eg UHU or Bostick, but I seem to remember them being quite stringy & messy... looking for a pretty much instant bond with no mess..was wondering would superglue do as it will be well sealed with matt varnish   ???

Hi Clark

I usually use plain old PVA. It obviously doesn't give an instant bond but that doesn't realyy matter as planking is a relatively slow job for me any way. PVA also allows me to make sure the black paper caulking is nicely in place before I lay the next plank. If you DO want instant bonding I would suggest a SPRAY contact adhesive, this will give you about  One hours work time once tacky.

Hope this helps

I agree with Stuart, the glue of choice for me would be good ole PVA....
