I contributed to a thread on aquatic weed harvesters in 2007.
See www.paddleducks.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=2621.0
Googling on the term brings up lots of sites, including the one from which the orange machine a few posts back was obtained.
Another nice one is www.aquaticweedharvester.com.au

Whilst stumbling around the web in search of an unusual paddler, I came across the following model - Does anyone know anything about it? Is it based on a real prototype? What the heck is it? A rail ferry perhaps? If it is, it's the most complicated rail ferry I've ever seen!

Any information would be very welcome - It appears to carry the name "City of Detroit"....

That's impressive. Looks like a rail ferry, speaking for the track on deck...
I don't think it's real, but it's still pretty impressive!

The only paddler I can find called 'City of Detroit' is this, 'City of Detroit III'.

Hello PDs,

Eddy, the Great Lakes Maritime Database lists several City Of Detroits dating back to 1866 but this is not one of them. She is not listed among the transfer ferries in the book The Great Lakes Car Ferries. She may have been a proposed plan for a ferry but never built. Judging from her open decks and low freeboard, she would have served the Detroit River/Windsor area. Her double deck would have required additional loading equipment that, to my knowledge, has never existed. All of the Detroit River car ferries became obsolete when a rail tunnel was built under the river. Looking at the model, she looks rather unwieldy even with two sets of paddles and especially with that boxy hull construction.
I think that this is more than likely somebodies fantasy rail ferry.

Yes I agree it's probably a fictitious boat - A shame as it's certainly unusual, but nevermind I'll keep looking for something that takes my fancy....
