USS sable / Wolverine

Hi All,
Eddie got me thinking when i first posted mentioning that i have built model boats of the grey kind.  He mentioned US paddle carriers, I have done some searching and have identified what they are.  this has intrigued me enough to search out any further information to decide if there is enough to build one, if so then in what scale.

any and all help greatfully received. or its

For a working model it would be a difficult paddler to choose - It could certainly be done, but the flightdeck etc would have to be built light or it could have real stability problems! The normal aircraft carrier problem, but compounded by the fact that it's also a paddler.....

USS Wolverine was built on the hull of a passenger vessel called the "Seeandbee", and USS Sable was built on the hull of the "Greater Buffalo", so searching for those may get more results, particularly for the hull and paddlewheels.

Other than that I think it may be down to some of our American members to help with further detail.

Floatingdrydock has a set of plans for the Wolverine, but as far as I can make out it doesn't include hull lines...

The Institute for Great Lakes Research has the plans for the Seeandbee which include outboard profile, inboard profile, lines, offsetts and scantlings, midship, deck plan, cabins, a bunch of "inique drawings" according to the catalog of their collection. The drawings are on roll 21 and roll 22 of microfilm. You can also get the drawings printed out--cost depending. If you get the microfilm, there are a number of sidewheelers on the films so there is a liklely hood also of future projects or the posibility to share costs. films were 35$ each some years ago.
  or get the floating drydock plans and then get the lines from GLR.

Don't forget to ask floating drydock if their plans include lines or frams. They usually have very good sets from the  shipbuilders Booklet of PLans but I can't find my catalog now.

The Great Lakes Historical Society/ Inlandseas Museum list the plans (including the hull lines) on their website here; http://www.inlandseas.org/collections/shipsplans/detroitsb.html Scroll down to hull number 190 then go across the page to see all of the plans that they have checked off that are available. As far as ship's plans go, the SEEANDBEE is rather complete. I don't know if these will help you in the conversion to the USS WOLVERINE, but it should get you started on the hull.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for all of the information, I will look into these plans and i have also found a book on Amazon in the US.  I think this will be a long research project and a longer build (if this mad man goes through with it )  but then i do enjoy a challenge.

meantime i will order the director plans to keep me occupied.

Hi All,

A decision has been made, it will be the Seeandbee leading to USS Wolverine.  I have made contact with The Great Lakes Historical Society and they are very kindly going to look at all photographs and plans that they have.  they will then let me know the price of a set of paper plans along with a DVD of the plans and photographs.

Forgot to mention.  the long suffering better half has sown a seed of 2 ships, 1 of the seeandbee and 1 wolvering, to be built in parallel.   

now that would be a long term build.

While you are waiting PeeWee, have a look at the Great lakes Maritime Database, http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/i/image/image-idx?page=index;c=tbnms1ic. Select the "Vessel Name" brouse button, then select the "S" button, then the "Se" button and finally "Seeandbee". You'll have 22 selections of pics and docs pertaining to the SeeandBee, many of which show her as the Wolverine. Some very high resolution pics showing her close up also.
