Paddle steamer models in southern small museums.
« on: March 17, 2009, 06:40:49 AM »
The Paddle steamer Presevation Society has a vast collection of paddler related items some of which are on loan to museums. Amongst them are a number of models of paddle steamers. On searching the Heritage Steamers web site i have found where some of these models are on the south coast. COULD ANY OF OUR MEMBERS VISIT THESE MUSEUMS AND PHOTOGRAPH THE MODELS?. The museums are as follows:

 FELIXSTOWE MUSEUM.
 Large model of LA MARGUERITE.
Collection of smaller models built by Harold Collard Stone, including thames paddlers.

MARGATE MUSEUM.
Large models of PS ROYAL EAGLE and PS ROYAL SOVEREIGN'
More models by Harold Collard Stone.

RAMSGATE MARITIME MUSEUM,
Models of GOLDEN EAGLE and ROYAL EAGLE.

As well as models all the above havea lot of paddle steamer related items on display.
If anyone could posibly photgrapph the above models (preferably one full length plus two or thee detail photographs) they would help other membersto decide whether the museums should be visited. (I know Hans is particularly interested as he wishes to visit paddler museums on a future visit). Thanks in anticipation, walter.
Blessed are the "cracked" -for they let in the light for the rest of us.

Following on from Walters post.....

We plan on adding some photo galleries of paddlers in museums, so our members can use them for research. There will be a seperate gallery for each museum, with a maximum of two or three images of each paddle vessel they have on display. So obviously we need YOUR help to get this off the ground!

As I said, we need 2 or 3 images of each vessel, any relevant information on the model (at least the name if nothing else!), and the full address and phone number of the museum. Remember it's paddlers ONLY though, we don't want images of any other vessels...

This could be an extremely useful addition to the website, but it can only work if lots of people contribute!

Images, with full details as outlined above, should be sent to me via email to eddy.matthews@paddleducks.co.uk and I'll add them to the galleries - Before we can do this, I need to change the software we use for our photo galleries, but that's my problem, and something I'll get done in the next week or so...

So get out there with your cameras, and lets see how far we can take this!!

Regards
Eddy

Hi Eddy,
How about including museums in other countries, for our international jet-setters?

The whole idea is for everyone to contribute Kiwi, not just those in the UK! So wherever you are, let us know about your local museums, especially the smaller ones that no-one knows about!

Felixstowe has a paddler on main page It may be La M. The photo was not actually captioned at Felixstowe.  Looks promising. Great project idea.
