PS Kingswear Castle
« on: January 18, 2009, 03:42:11 AM »
Went and collected it today from Chris. It's a really nice model. Once the stations are on it and the seats that have fallen off are put back it'll be nice. I've also e-mailed John Megoran (captain of her) asking him for small details such as what the spacing between the stantions should be. I'll post some pictures of its progress when I get started.

Despite the high cost of living,
                    it still remains popular.

Well I might be going to a large pond tomorrow at a farm. This afternoon we've got the battery fitted snugly in the hull and all the wires tucked down etc. so the top will fit, and fitted a switch turning battery on/off.

The motor keeps humming when I turn the controller on, and when not moving it hums. Is this good or not...

Hmmm, don't know about that, maybe a 'side effect' of the speed controller? (my model trains used to do that when the control was moved very slightly from the stop position, if there was not enough current to turn the motor) or possibly it needs setting up in some way?
maybe someone with the same controller will know...
by the way, kept this one quiet, is it from the revell kit?

Yes it is a Revell kit. It was in the eighties condition with squat funnel but I made it look older with the tall black funnel and the blue paddle box decoration. And a new wheelhouse.

Looks good, I have one of those too, haven't started on it, I bought it really in case it disappears from the shops one day...

What Motor and speed control combination do you have?
If there is an option on the speed control to change rate(frequency) of the pulses it can stop the humming.
Also if you adjust the centering or dead band does it affect the noise?

I've stopped it now ;D ;D. There is an adjusment thing on the controller and it was half way down-all the way down puts it in reverse. So it was humming because it did not have enough power to put it in reverse. So it's fine now.

Well. I've just come back from an afternoon of sailing on a pond on a friends farm. After a few minor adjusments to the steering and sorting out a list, she performed beautifully. Here are some pictures, and a video will be posted on youtube later.

Me operating!

Hope you like!
