DDMBC Paddler Day 2008
« on: August 29, 2008, 12:59:08 AM »
Hi All.

Just an extra bit of info on facilities at the lakeside.  A wooden mooring strip will be fixed in place  :hammer with bollards (1" nails ;)) to moor you model on the water if you wish.  There will be over 40 feet of space available.  We also hope to have a "pier" (builders plank or similar ;)) to practice coming alongside, all to make your day more enjoyable :clap.

I have it on good authority that Eddy has applied copious amounts of varnish (paint that is not the tonsil type :beer) which should be dry by 21st (which is more than I can say for Eddy).
Cheers from Bob Golder

had a quick look at MB magazine on the way home tonight and I see this event is listed with a description (of what it's about) and directions on how to get there!

And guess who got home after painting said wood, only to make the fatal mistake of mentioning it to my wife....... Oh that reminds me, says she, the kitchen could do with decorating! :( :(

Me and my big mouth!!

I've just received word that Knightswood MBC (Glasgow) will be coming down with their 86" long model of the Talisman for our Paddler Day. Great news!! :)

A few guys are also making the trip from Edinburgh MBC, as they did last year.

The more the merrier guys, you'll all be made very welcome I can assure you...

Regards

Perhaps Talisman could double as a rescue boat :thinking

Can I just remind anyone thats coming along to the Paddler Day, that there will be a Bring & Buy stall, so get all those odds and ends sorted and see if you can make a few quid - 10% commission payable by the seller on all succesful sales. Items for sale DO NOT have to be paddler related.

We are also trying to set a record for the most Graupner Glasgow paddletugs on the water at one event - So if you have a Graupner Glasgow (working or not) bring it along and join in the record attempt.

If anyone has any questions, please contact me via the forum, or via email - My address is listed in the 2008 Paddler Day page, which can be accessed by clicking on the link in the left hand menu.

Regards
Eddy

Late Extra on the construction site :hammer  The moorings and the piers (yes two of them) have been made.  The piers have been painted by Eddy  :bravo - a nice deep green to match his fingers, the workshop floor and the soles of my shoes.  A trophy  :trophy has been supplied by Ernie Lazenby for the best model on the water and we've indented for a gentle breeze and sunshine :sunglasses.

Hey it wasn't my fault that it was raining cats and dogs and I had to paint them inside!!  :nahnah It took ages to get that damned paint off my hands!!

sounds like it's going to be a great day, unfortunately though I don't have a car so unless my brother fancies going (and he's not a boat modeller) don't think I can make it :(

Just as a matter of interest, I painted the bollard tops white and never got paint anywhere other than it was intended, now thats SKILL. Walter.
Blessed are the "cracked" -for they let in the light for the rest of us.

But you weren't using a 6" brush more suitable for whitewashing the ceilings - Don't forget your older than me, after almost 70 yrs, I'd expect you could paint your bollards blindfolded!   :whistle

Only ONE week to go until the big day!!

At the moment, the weather forecast is looking favourable - Fine and dry, but cloudy, with light to moderate winds.... Let's hope the weather forecasters have got it right for once!!

Final preparations are being made, so lets have a good turnout and enjoy a days sailing...

One thing I forgot to mention - 240v mains power is available in our clubhouse in case anyone needs to charge batteries or RC gear.

Just remember to bring your chargers!!

After I put the note at the top of the forum to remind people to charge their batteries ready for the big day, I decided I should take my own advice.....

It's just as well I did...... My Graupner Glasgow has a duff drive battery, my own fault for not charging it for almost a year! But fortunately I still have time to get a replacement before it needs to go on the water :)

So don't leave things until the last minute before a show, check everything well in advance!!

Tomorrow is the big day, and we couldn't have wished for better weather!! The latest forecast is listed below:

Early morning mist on sunday will quickly clear to give a fine and dry day with some bright or sunny spells. Pleasantly warm for the time of year at 19 degrees celcius, with light 7 mph south to south westerly winds.

P.S. Don't forget the Bring & Buy stall if you have anything you want to sell.
