Gas Tanks and Burners
« on: August 09, 2008, 03:04:06 AM »
Hi All,
I am more confused than normal,  Fred Graham in his post in Re: Message from a very 'newbie' (or Flash Steam) says "By the way there is an interesting article in Model Boats this month (September) by Peter Arnott on LPG Vaporisers.". I went looking for this issue and could not find it, I found the July 2008 issue, which has an article " More Gas Tanks and Burners" by Martin Ranson, Fred is this the article you are referring too? In this article he mentions an original article in the June 2005 issue of Model Boats, does anyone have this issue?
Regards,
Gerald.

Hello Gerald, I probably do have all of the aforementioned articles. The latest one referred to is indeed in the September 2008 issue whch arrived by post this week. it is way over the top of my head but it will probably appeal to those steamerswho take this medium seriously  :goodluck :shhh

cheers

Jim

http://www.forest-classics.co.uk/bix_sprite.htm ......they have a very wide range....& sometimes you would be  :thinking that many were made in the same factory  :hehe

I sent a note to Eddy ....failed  :sorry in trying to upload this directly into tour WEBSITES section..sub section Steam Engines sub......Manufacturers etc....Derek

Hi Jim,
I have the July 2008 Issue (its the latest one here), I tried to find the June 2005 issue at the Library but it is missing. Is there any way you could copy or scan the article in the June 2005 issue for me. The September issue may show up here in a couple of months.
Regards,
Gerald

Hi Gerald,

Have another look at Model Boats for September 2008. On page 44 there is an article called 'Firing model steam boilers with LPG vaporising burners'. If you have looked before, the pages must have been stuck together but it is a good article and exactly what I have done myself with my own boiler. I can vouch for the method, although Mr Arnott needs no endorsement from me!

All the best, Fred Graham

Hi Fred,
The Post over to the Colonies is very slow right now. The lattest Model Boats issue in the Book Stores here is the July 2008.

Hi Gerald,

I take both Model Boats and Model Engineer so when I saw your post I thought I must have confused the two and the Arnott article was in ME. (Another senior moment!)

Anyway you have the Arnott article to look forward to and it is worth the wait.

As it happens, in this posting list, further up, you will see a photo of my boiler which has been arranged with this kind of vaporiser round the enty to the centre flue. It works very well and I had actually made it, based on the earlier article by Peter Arnott where he constructs a Vee four oscillating engine and descibes the boiler firing. I also had some help and guidance from a research chemist in Australia who tests LPG cans for Coleman.

Anyway, now you know where the article is, all the best, Fred Graham.

Hi Fred,
Which one is it in:
Model Boats or Model Engineer/
I used to take both, but the gradual increase in price, the decrease in articles I found interesting, and the decrease in my income, caused me to stop taking them all the time.

Gerald

Hi Gerald,

It is as I said originally, in Model Boats for September page 44. If you are a subscriber you should be able to view the article on line from this website in due course assuming that it is featured. I do not know when Model Boats is published where you are, but Martin Ranson's article is featured at the moment and that was in Model boats for July on Page 48.

Its just a metter of time.

All the best, Fred Graham

I just found the September 2008, Model Boats Magazine. I have glanced at the article by Peter Arnot, it looks very interesting.

Gerald
