A few photos for Sandy Thomson
« on: July 24, 2008, 06:57:32 AM »
Today, Bob Golder, Walter Snowdon and myself, decided it was an ideal day to run three models which we own and were originally built by Sandy Thomson - I guess from that, that you can see we all appreciate his workmanship! So here's our tribute to Sandy :)

I ran the Marchioness of Lorne, Walter ran the Waverley, and Bob ran the turbine steamer Duchess of Hamilton.

So here they are in all their magnificence on the water this afternoon at Darlington MBC....

Fantastic scenes :clap. Thank you for showing us, and 'Well done' to Mr Thomson. You have given us all something to aim for.

Worse than you think Derek. ::)  One model ( :angel nameless to avoid embarrasing the skipper) was extremely light on battery power and another ( :angel ditto) suffered from absence of padddle chain drive - but we still managed the photo shoot, more by luck than good judgement ;).
Cheers from Bob Golder

I'd certainly not wish to embarrass anyone, but all I will say is the one model that ran perfectly was mine, so I'll leave you to guess who had which problem :)

Gosh Eddy,
don't they look good, I'm beginning to wish I had never parted with them!

Tell Bob, that his "Hamilton" looks as good as new;  and I've just looked it up, that I parted with her away back in 1979! She was featured in the "MODEL BOATS" magazine in April 1978 and Walter's "Waverley" was in the April 1976 edition.

Your "Marchioness of Lorne" is of course a rebuild, but my original article was in November 1977 "Model Boats".
Thanks for the photos they are now in my album,       Sandy

I'm really pleased that you enjoyed the photos Sandy.... Bob dearly loves the Hamilton, and I can assure you it's well looked after (as I think the photos show), and it gets it's bum wet at least three or four times a year.

Next time they are all on the water together, I hope to get at least one shot of them cruising down the lake together - Sadly technical problems prevented that on this occassion :(

Another piece of history for you Sandy.  I took "Duchess of Hamilton" to the nationals in 1979 an made second place in the stand-off scale steering with her.  I still have the trophy to prove it.  Perhaps a combination of Scottish Chief Engineer and Scottish helmsman  ;)
Cheers from Bob Golder
